BCS Robotics competes on the World Stage
The Bellefontaine City Schools Robotics program reached new heights on the World Stage in St. Louis over the last week.
Three BCS Robotics teams competed at the VEX World Championships—an elite event where only the top 2% of teams worldwide qualify to compete against teams from more than 30 countries.
For the first time ever, BHS sent two teams to the VEX Worlds: 9185T - Terminator and 9185K - Kratos. Each team battled in their own division and earned the respect and admiration of the judges, coaches, and student engineers with which they competed.
Terminator ended up going 4-8 finishing the competition in 68th place. The highlight of their competition was winning the Design Award. This award highlights their commitment to the engineering process and documenting their entire season. Lead Engineering Notebooker Lorenz Henry kept track of the team's entire season, including all major and minor changes as well as all data that explained the team's decisions.
Kratos ended up 79th in their division with a record of 3-9.
In the middle school competition, 9185B - Banana Boys showed their toughness and competitive spirit through 10 matches over 3 days, ending with a record of 6-4 in 38th place. However, their teamwork and sportsmanship led to team 9050E - Galaxy from Groton, South Dakota, picking them as part of the 15th seed alliance. Unfortunately, the pair lost in the first round of the tournament.
In 6 days of competition with over 5,000 matches, BCS student engineers showed their passion and tenacity for problem-solving and sportsmanship to every team they faced.
Special congratulations to Bellefontaine seniors Lorenz Henry and Mason Swisher for an outstanding robotics career—ending it on the world stage and bringing home BHS Team 9185’s first-ever VEX Worlds award!
Thank you to the families and supporters for making this opportunity possible and cheering on our students as they represented Bellefontaine on the global stage.
