BCS Robotics hosts King of the Hill

Bellefontaine City Schools Robotics hosted the inaugural “King of the Hill” tournament at Bellefontaine Middle School on Saturday.

The robotics qualifier featured 68 teams from across the state – 45 high school teams and 23 middle school teams – each competing in their own divisions for a chance to advance to the next level of competition.

The qualifier brought together hundreds of students, coaches, and families for a full day of engineering, strategy, and spirited teamwork. Teams competed in fast-paced matches requiring robots to complete a variety of precision-based tasks, all while demonstrating problem-solving, adaptability, and programming skill.

BCS Robotics volunteers and staff coordinated the event, ensuring smooth match flow, timely inspections, and a supportive environment for both new and returning teams. The energy remained high throughout the day as matches grew more intense and rankings shifted with each round.

For many students, the event was not only a competitive challenge but also an opportunity to connect with other young engineers and celebrate the growing robotics community in the region. Coaches praised the sportsmanship and collaboration displayed across both divisions.

Bellefontaine Middle School results:

9185S "Scrambled Eggz" ended the qualifier section with a perfect 6-0 record and landed a spot in the tournament finals, but lost a close match falling just short of the Champion spot. Scrambled Eggz consists of Rayluis Caraballo Feliciano, JW Dolan, Ryder Hoskins, Owen Peak, and Jason Rudasill.

9185B "Banana Boys" went 5-1 in the qualifier matches and made a good run at the tournament but lost in the semifinals after a part was broken during the match. They did end the skills competition in 2nd place with a score of 41.

9185F "Pickle Bots" went 4-2 in the qualifiers, picking their sister team 9185N "Gemini" (3-3) going all the way to the semifinals, but losing in a close and competitive match 29-19.

Bellefontaine High School results:

BHS Team 9185T "Terminator" earned the Design Award for an outstanding engineering notebook, tracking the progress of the team, game, and robot design through the engineering process. Terminator went 5-1 in the qualifier matches, teaming up for the tournament with their sister team 9185K "Kratos" (3-3) but the alliance lost in the quarterfinals. Terminator is made up of team members Haydon Argabright, Marek Frazier, Lorenz Henry, Brody Miranda, and Mason Swisher.

Team 9185W "It's Whatever" ended the qualifiers in 4th place with a 6-0 record. It's Whatever ended the skills competition with a 5th-place showing of 76 points. After selecting 11254G, this alliance advanced to the quarterfinals but lost in a close match (67-56).

9185M "MINIFRIDGE" went 4-2 during the qualifiers and lost in the first round of the tournament.

The BCS Robotics coaches and booster organization applauded all participants and thanked the volunteers, sponsors, and Bellefontaine City Schools for helping make the 2025 King of the Hill Qualifier a success. The organization looks forward to hosting Showdown at the Peak at Bellefontaine High School on February 21st.
