BES hosts Reading Olympics; Sweet Team wins Gold

The Bellefontaine City Schools Gifted Department hosted the Reading Olympics in the Distance Learning Center on Thursday.

The trio of ladies that called themselves the Sweet Team walked away with a sweet victory.

The Sweet Team featured Nova McKirahan, Addy Lewis, and Riley Stringfellow.

Runners-up were Vaileen Valencia, Ella Willett, and Ella Wunderle of the Art is Smart team.

The Champ Boys finished in 3rd. Team members are Drew Matt, Paxton McDonald, and Grant Core.

26 Bellefontaine Elementary School second graders qualified for the annual event out of 60 participants.

Students spend a few months reading from a list of books chosen by the BCS Gifted Department and must produce a summary of the story that can be used during the competition.

The event is organized by Gifted Intervention Specialist Lindy Martin. She was assisted by Gifted Intervention Specialist Katie Davis and parent volunteer Cassidy Miller.

The challenge was created by Cathy Wiley and has been in existence for 28 years.
