BHS hosts another successful Relay for Life
Bellefontaine High School hosted a very successful Relay for Life at BHS Friday afternoon.
Students and staff teamed up to fight cancer.
Attendees walked a lap inside the school, then enjoyed several other activities.
This year’s event was indoors because of rain.
Student groups organized games or sold food.
This included tattoo a teacher (with Mr. Core and Mr. Reinhard), cake pops, snow cones, popsicles, Plinko, arrow game, ceramics and crafts sales, duck pond, water pong, and photo booth.
The 1-hour Relay Celebration raised over $1,200 (including money from T-shirt sales).
The Relay for Life is the national fundraising branch of the American Cancer Society. Its mission is to support cancer patients, raise awareness about the causes of cancer and the importance of early screening, and fund research for new treatments.
The American Cancer Society funds more research than any other private organization. Only the US government funds more. This past year, ACS gave 41 grants to Ohio totaling $23.4 million.
The BHS Relay for Life is organized by teacher Michelle Rohrer and National Honor Society members.
She said, “Despite the rain, it was a successful event for the building. Students took one ceremonial lap inside, then the fun began. Students played games and ate the carnival-themed food. Overall, it helped raise money for some great organizations that do amazing things for people battling cancer.”
Friday was also the last day of classes for seniors.
