Smith captures BMS Spelling Bee

Bellefontaine Middle School held its annual spelling bee Wednesday afternoon.

33 students in grades 6-8 competed in the bee, which was held in the library.

In the 8th round, seventh-grader Owen Smith correctly spelled “boutique” to become the champion.

Eighth-grader Eva Wilson was runner-up.

Both students have qualified for the Logan County Spelling Bee at the Holland Theatre on January 13th at 6 p.m.

Smith will also take an online spelling and vocabulary test in February to advance toward the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

Smith is the son of Nate & Kate Smith.

Wilson is the daughter of Caleb & Karen Wilson.

Lindy Martin was the moderator at BMS.

Stephanie Fissel and Julie Kurtz were the judges.

Bellefontaine Intermediate School will host its spelling bee on December 8th.
