Brooke McClellan-Alumni Spotlight

In this week's Alumni Spotlight, we're catching up with alumna Brooke McClellan

What are you doing now?

After high school I attended Wittenberg University in person before I transferred to Southern New Hampshire University to continue my schooling online. Here I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science with Cum Laude distinction. For over a year now I’ve worked as a manufacturing associate with Adecco. I was always scared to work in a factory; however, I’ve honestly enjoyed my time at Honda so far. I’ve met so many amazing people who have essentially become my second family. In my free time I love to spend my time outdoors; therefore, leading me to my passion of sports and nature photography. In the spring and fall I enjoy taking pictures of track and field and cross country on the high school and collegiate level. I also love going hiking and birding year round. My favorite bird to find is the Black-capped chickadee or the Carolina chickadee!

How did BCS prepare you for this role?

BHS has prepared me for my next steps in life through academics and athletics. Academically I learned valuable research skills that only advanced when I went to college. This was necessary for the many science classes I had to take! The four years I spent running varsity track and field and cross country has also prepared me. I learned how to work in a team unit which has helped extensively at my current job. Athletics also gave me the determination I needed to keep going on my early mornings or lazy days. Overall, I have been able to keep my body healthy and in shape from what I have learned from my past coaches!

What is your advice for current Chieftains?

My advice for current Chieftains is to try out everything you want; however, ensure you leave time to take care of yourself mentally and physically. Overworking yourself and filling your schedule to the brim can easily leave you drained and put a strain on your relationships.

Who at BCS inspired you?

I have had many teachers and coaches who have shaped who I am today; however, three teachers resonated with me the most. Ms. Mount, my chemistry and physics teacher, was a kind and amazing soul. Her love for teaching made her classes enjoyable and fun! My favorite part of her classes was definitely the physics labs. Mr. Wright, my astronomy, oceanography, and earth and space science teacher, was very calm and laid back. I always found his classes extremely interesting and enjoyed the witty jokes he would make. The nature documentaries and dissections definitely had to be the best part! Lastly, Mr. Miller, my algebra and pre-calculus teacher, was extremely kind and passionate about his job. Math wasn’t my strongest subject, but he explained everything in detail and was there to help if we needed. I loved him telling us stories about his cows that he has!

What was your favorite memory from your time at BCS?

My favorite memories from high school come from my time in sports. I’m extremely competitive so I loved competing in as many events as I could. Being apart of the 2018 track team that made school history by winning the DII regional championships is a memory that comes to mind. Besides the competition, my teammates also made the sport memorable. I’ve made so many lifelong friends from sports and have many fond memories of goofing off with them. The most memorable season was my junior year (2019) of track with Bryanna, Connor, and Paul. I feel as if we were definitely the most annoying people on bus rides because we couldn’t shut up!

What was your favorite meal in the cafeteria?

I packed lunch; however, I think my all time FAVORITE had to be brunch for lunch. I would beg my friends for the tater coins that they would serve alongside this.
