Derek Alexander-Alumni Spotlight

In this week's Alumni Spotlight, we're catching up with alumna Derek Alexander

What are you doing now?

After graduating I attended college for approx. 1 1/2 years, before making a drastic life change & enlisting in the United States Air Force. I was active duty for 7 years before ending my active duty career & joining the Ohio Air National Guard, where I’ve been the last 8 years. I also started working at Honda, at both the Ohio Transmission Plant & the Anna Engine Plant. I currently reside in Sidney, OH with my girlfriend Ashley & our beagle, Buster.

How did BCS prepare you for this role?

BHS prepared me for life after high school by giving me the ability to roll with the flow of life. Whatever problems or adversity you may face, the solution will always present itself.

What is your advice for current Chieftains?

Don’t be afraid of failure! Failure, in my opinion, will teach you so much more than succeeding will. Every failure should not be viewed as a “loss”; rather, failure should be looked as an opportunity to learn.

Who at BCS inspired you?

Mr. Welsheimer! He made it obvious that you can make your job fun & entertaining with the right attitude.

What was your favorite memory from your time at BCS?

Being in the Jock Block on Friday nights! Looking back, it was so impactful because it cemented relationships with folks I still consider my best friends.

What was your favorite meal in the cafeteria?

The taco-bar was unmatched at lunchtime!
