Kelly Templeton Alumni Spotlight

In this week's Alumni Spotlight, we're catching up with alumna Kelly Templeton

What are you doing now?

For the past 23 years, I have had the privilege of working at Walmart, where I currently serve as a Market People Partner. In this role, I support associates across 11 stores, helping to foster a positive work environment and ensure that each individual feels valued and heard. Beyond my core responsibilities, I am deeply involved in a women’s empowerment group, striving to uplift and inspire women within the organization. Additionally, I take great pride in assisting a colleague who supports the homeless, furthering Walmart’s commitment to making a meaningful impact both in our stores and within the broader community.
I moved to Kentucky over 14 years ago to be closer to my nephews, and it has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. Being near family has brought me so much joy and balance, allowing me to support them while continuing my career with Walmart.

How did BCS prepare you for this role?

Growing up in a small-town high school with a close-knit group of friends taught me the value of strong relationships and community. It helped me develop communication skills, empathy, and a sense of accountability—qualities that have been essential in my HR role. The ability to navigate different personalities, build trust, and work collaboratively with others directly translates into how I support associates and foster a positive workplace culture today.

What is your advice for current Chieftains?

My advice for students at the small-town high school I graduated from is to embrace the close-knit community around you. The relationships you build here can be lifelong, and the support system you develop will help you grow both personally and professionally. Don’t underestimate the power of empathy, communication, and collaboration. These skills are invaluable in any career, especially in roles that involve working with people. Stay curious, be kind, and know that even from a small town, you can make a big impact wherever you go.

What was your favorite memory from your time at BCS?

My high school experience was filled with school spirit and camaraderie, especially being part of the girls' basketball team and enjoying those Friday night football games and being in the jock block at the boys basketball games.

What was your favorite meal in the cafeteria?

I was a freshman and looked forward to the square pizza with fries and mayonnaise, a weird combination I know!
