Maurika Varian Alumni Spotlight
In this week's Alumni Spotlight, we're catching up with alumna Maurika Varian, class of 1993

What are you doing now?
I have two Children both BHS Alumni, Wayce and Tuff. I am currently the Plant Manager for Graphic Packaging International located in Groveport, Ohio.
How did BCS prepare you for this role?
Cultural respect was vital during my time at BCS. There I learned that despite differences in social economics or cultural activities. We have the duty to be open minded and when we commit to learning and educating, opportunities open up. The lessons we learn will provide a roadmap for success if we just accept a challenge or difference as a template to grow. I attended Urbana University and have enjoyed a successful career that now has me preparing for retirement.
What is your advice for current Chieftains?
Be open and true. Look at those around you as an opportunity to teach them and learn from them. You may be surprised how brilliant and kind the world can be if you are open to this idea. We all possess the ability to be respected and to be respected in return.
Who at BCS inspired you?
An elementary principal at Southeastern, Mr. Bell. Also Mrs. Lautenschlager at BMS. For me, they were larger than life people and they accepted me, a quiet kid who lacked self-confidence. They gave me a voice among giants. I am forever grateful for the respect given by these two caring people.
What was your favorite memory from your time at BCS?
There were so many, some fun and some somber. It would be a disservice for me to pinpoint just one. In general I fondly recall just being a good and accepting person. Who still carries strong bonds with my peers at BCS.
What was your favorite meal in the cafeteria?
School Pizza of course! With a Chocolate Milk. I also secretly love the mixed fruit, but never told my friends, lol.
