Penny (Helzer) Smith - Alumni Spotlight

 

In this week's Alumni Spotlight, we're catching up with alumna Penny (Helzer) Smith

What are you doing now? 

I have 5 wonderful kids, all now adults. 4 of
the 5 also graduated from BCS and 11 grandchildren. I am a school bus driver and On Board Trainer for none other than BCS. This is my 25th year driving a bus, 23 years being full time for Bellefontaine!

How did BCS prepare you for this role?

Schedules! Hard work, consistency and dedication in order to get good grades. I enjoyed school, so for me this job was like coming home!

What is your advice for current Chieftains?

Don't give up, work hard, and if you need help, say something!  Also, be sure to register to vote!  

Who at BCS inspired you?

In my elementary years, definitely Phil Forsythe and Debbie Ellis. They were my absolute favorites and to this day, when I run into them, they remember me.

What was your favorite memory from your time at BCS?

Games of Red Rover, games with the big parachute, dodgeball and jumping rope and pep rallies

What was your favorite meal in the cafeteria?

I usually packedI
